Beyond the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE): Introducing Learning Design in Higher Education

This e-learning course is designed for tutors, lecturers and higher education professionals who want to develop their understanding of learning design and move beyond simply using a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to create engaging and effective learning experiences.

Throughout the course, you will explore key learning design concepts, frameworks and approaches, including learner analysis, flexible learning, learning technologies and digital learning design. You will have the opportunity to apply established learning design theories and create a practical learning design plan that can be adapted to your own educational context.

By the end of the course, you will have the skills to analyse learner needs and contexts, apply learning design approaches to create effective learning experiences, and evaluate how intentional learning design can enhance learner engagement and outcomes in higher education.

This course contains 4 core sections focusing on learning technologies and VLEs, flexible learning, learning design approaches, and evaluating learning design.

The course will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
