Introduction to UK Higher Education

This e-learning course has been designed specifically for professionals who have recently joined or are about to join, a Higher Education (HE) institution in the United Kingdom as a member of staff. The course is not specific to academic staff; rather, it has been designed to include all staff new to HE working across a range of roles and departments.  It covers topics related to people, regulations, teaching and learning, funding and the future of higher education.

Course learning outcomes:

• Understand the different roles in a Higher Education Provider, how they fit into the larger framework and their impact on the provider's success.

• Understand inclusive and student-centred approaches to teaching and learning, including the importance of continuing professional development.

• Identify the organisations, frameworks and approaches that govern and enhance quality in higher education across the UK, and understand the consequences of not meeting standards.

• Understand how higher education providers operate within financial, policy and strategic contexts, and the challenges facing the sector.

This course will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
