The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) landscape in UK higher education is constantly changing at pace, and staff need a foundational understanding that turns legal and policy duties into everyday actions. The course helps participants to reflect on their own individual relationship with equality/equity, diversity and inclusion and their role in responding to unacceptable behaviour and supporting their students and colleagues well. With simple tools, realistic scenarios and signposting, it builds staff confidence and a safer, more inclusive institutions that reduce risks (including complaints and reputational harm), and improves belonging, retention and success for all.
Our Introduction to EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) in Higher Education is designed for today’s landscape, covering new and updated laws and regulations into everyday practice. This includes the supreme court judgement interpretation of the Equality Act, the OfS free-speech duties in England, the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan and Scotland’s duties around hate crimes. The handbook that accompanies the course includes questions for deeper reflection and engagement.
